Dozens of tests and procedures follow, often not covered by insurance. In a matter of weeks, parents can become emotionally and financially depleted.
As a new resource, The Hearing School of the Southwest serves as an advocate for each family where hearing disorder has intruded.
Education is the key to unlocking the potential for children with hearing loss. Nevertheless, the cost is high -- nearly $27,000 per child per year. Starting tuition at The Hearing School of the Southwest is $17,000 per year per pupil. Limited state funds to cover such costs are available. For many students scholarships will be necessary.
