How You Can Help Minimize

Each year more than 4,000 American babies are born deaf: frequently due to unknown causes. Other babies and young children will lose their hearing due to injuries or illnesses such as meningitis.

Immediately the lives of these children's families turn upside down. Parents make a traumatic transition from the world of hearing to one where sound barely penetrates if it penetrates at all. Dozens of tests and procedures follow, often not covered by insurance. In a matter of weeks, parents can become emotionally and financially depleted.

As a new resource, The Hearing School of the Southwest serves as an advocate for each family where hearing disorder has intruded.

Education is the key to unlocking the potential for children with hearing loss. Nevertheless, the cost is high -- nearly $27,000 per child per year. Starting tuition at The Hearing School of the Southwest is $17,000 per year per pupil. Currently, no state funds are available. For many students scholarships will be necessary.

Your financial gifts, scholarship money, and volunteer hours will help make the birthright of speech a reality for each deaf child.

Donate today and make a difference by contacting the school at (469) 532-2280.
