Unlocking the potential in each child
Speech is the birthright of every child; it is the deaf child’s one fair chance to keep in touch with his fellows.
-- Helen Keller
Every child, she said. Even children whose cases seem the toughest: born without the power to hear their own laughter, or the rustle of grass, or even their parents’ voices, comforting and encouraging them.
The Hearing School of the Southwest has a mission - helping the child who is deaf or hearing-impaired conquer the world of silence in order to enter a new, unexpected world -- filled with the sounds of life. And with unlimited possibilities.
Thanks to medical advances the child who is deaf or hearing-impaired now can learn to live in the hearing world with an independence of action and spirit that might have astonishd even the great Helen Keller.
The key that unlocks the door to this new and surprising world is early intervention. The earliest possible.
At The Hearing School of the Southwest, we teach children who are deaf or hearing-impaired to talk and listen -- without the use of formal sign language Our active learning environment embraces children as young as two years.
Experience and intuition alike have shown us that the best, most lasting education takes place in a family context. We help parents gain access to the best services and support techniques so that their children -- through the power of language -- may gain self-confidence and social skills.
